Election Issues

Numerous issues threaten the integrity of elections across the United States, and Virginia is no exception. These challenges can undermine public trust and the fairness of the voting process. However, through outreach, education, and potential legislative changes, we can address and resolve these issues to ensure secure and transparent elections. Below are some of the key election integrity issues we face in Virginia.

  1. Ranked Choice Voting- Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is an emerging threat to the integrity of our local, state, and federal elections. It complicates the voting process and can diminish the political voices of American voters. Educating individuals on the specifics of RCV and effectively messaging against it is crucial.
  2. Vulnerabilities in Vote by Mail System- The vote by mail system has several vulnerabilities, including potential fraud and errors in ballot handling. Strengthening security measures and ensuring robust verification processes are essential to maintain the integrity of mail-in voting.
  3. 45 Days of Early Voting- While early voting aims to increase accessibility, an extended 45-day period can lead to logistical challenges and security concerns. Balancing accessibility with the need for secure voting processes is vital.
  4. Vulnerable Voters- Elderly and disabled voters are particularly susceptible to coercion and fraud. We must ensure that these voters have secure and accessible means to cast their ballots without influence from malicious sources.
  5. Noncitizen Voting- Currently, citizenship is not verified when registering to vote in Virginia, despite it being a constitutional requirement. This loophole allows noncitizens to potentially influence elections, which undermines the integrity of the electoral process.
  6. List Maintenance- Voter rolls often get clogged with individuals who are deceased, have moved, or are registered more than once. This clutter creates vulnerabilities and can lead to inaccuracies in election results and fraud.
  7. Same Day and Automatic Voter Registration- Same day and automatic voter registration can lead to errors and potential fraud, as there is little time to verify voter eligibility.

Your involvement is essential in safeguarding our democratic process. Join us in advocating for these crucial reforms against these issues and help us ensure that every vote counts and every election is secure!
